Andrea Tomkins Author of popular parenting blog, a peek inside the fishbowl As a freelance writer, Andrea’s work has appeared in a range of print publications, both local and national. But it’s her presence on the web that has taken on a life of its own. Andrea started keeping a blog when her daughter was born in 1999. Since then she’s made multiple appearances on CTV and on CBC radio to talk about blogging, and her website – a peek inside the fishbowl – has been recognized by publications such as Reader’s Digest International, Chatelaine, Canadian Family Magazine, the Toronto Star and the Ottawa Citizen. Andrea writes for Savvymom.ca and is a board member of the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa Charitable Foundation. She is also a spokesmom for the Champlain Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Network’s Know More Do More campaign, and has recently co-created an information-sharing event called the Ottawa Brain Drain so that more people can learn about blogging and social media. Andrea is a mother of two girls, aged 11 and 9.
Sara-Lynne Levine Editor/Publisher of Macaroni Kid (Ottawa Capital Region)Having worked in public relations and communications for the past 15 years, Sara-Lynne is now the Editor and Publisher of Macaroni Kid (Ottawa Capital Region), an e-newsletter and website that offers families a weekly look into the very best in kid-friendly entertainment, events, and area attractions in the National Capital Region. Throughout her career in public relations, she has secured coverage in Time, Forbes, The Chicago Sun-Times, The Baltimore Sun, and Playboy. Sara-Lynne has volunteered her skills for several non-profit activities and events including breast cancer awareness, launching a children’s museum, raising funds to purchase a fire truck for the NYPD after 9/11, working on a task force to help people find jobs and volunteering PR skills for her children’s schools. She is the proud mom of two boys, 8 and 4.
Cost $31+HST members; $37+HST non-members. To become a member, click here. Childcare will be provided by In A Pinch childcare services. Kids aged 0-12 years old are welcome. Listen to the speakers and engage in uninterrupted conversation while the children are supervised in a safe and fun area nearby. Babies aged 0 to 6 months (or older if you prefer) may choose to sit closer to Mom. An additional fee of $10+HST for the first child and $5+HST for each additional child will be charged for those requiring childcare (snacks included).
