The Juggling Act. Does your life sometimes feel like a circus, with you centre stage? Whether you feel like you are taming lions at home, or balancing on a high wire at work, or juggling too many balls trying to get your business started, join us to hear from other mom’s just how they manage it all, and still find time to laugh! The innovative Traci Costa, Director of Play at Peekaboo Beans and Jill Earthy, Founder of momcafe and entrapreneur, will share their journey with us as we launch momcafe in the tricities on Wednesay March 16th, 9:15-11:15 am at The Boathouse Resteraunt in Port Moody.
Traci has close to twenty years experience in business management, business growth and development, sales, marketing and operations in the financial, real estate development, manufacturing and distribution sectors, including the last five years of business ownership. Traci was driven by business, but longed to start a family and after five years of unexplained fertility, she and her husband were blessed with the birth of their first daughter Cailin through invitro-fertilization. Two years after the birth of Cailin, Traci recognised a significant market opportunity and had a vision to integrate innovative children’s playwear with early childhood developement. Peekaboo Beans now offers a cohesive line of “couture playwear” with market relevant pricing and sophisticated merchandising. Today the branded playwear is sold through over 100 retailers across North America. Not resting on her laurels, Traci celebrated the birth of her second daughter, Colbie Makena, after several more fertility treatments, two years after founding Peekaboo Beans. It seems fitting that Traci’s title is ‘Director of Play’ – as one of her most favorite pastimes is playing! What-ever her daughters dream up…whether it be, dress up, tea party, dancing, reading or arts & crafts … that is what she does! Traci oversees all the aspects of creative design and product development of Peekaboo Beans, ensuring that every garment meets the vision of the company. She is responsible for the corporate strategy, sales, marketing, public relations & overall operations. What things make Traci smile? The unquenchable curiosity & innocence of children, little bare bumbs and pure laughter. An extra hot latte’ , InStyle magazine and a comfy couch (must be combined together), a day at the spa, check marks on her to-do list, a glass of wine & good conversation, a sleeping child, a crisp Fall morning, finding the perfect outfit or shoes and the HAVE your size, someone following their dreams – these are but a few! Her vision is to make a difference and to help bring happiness & balance to her life…she hopes to pass this on to parents everywhere.
Jill’s passion is connecting women, something she has done informally for as long as she can remember. While on maternity leave with her second daughter, Jill recognized a common theme in many of the conversations she was having with other Moms. Many of these professional women, now with young children were feeling a lack of adult social interaction. Jill wanted to find a way to bring these women together in an encouraging environment. A café like setting seemed ideal to stimulate conversation and to encourage new ideas. By creating events that would foster new connections and supportive friendships, she loves watching women link up to start new businesses, share childcare, enjoy interesting conversations and so much more. Jill is thrilled to see her dream being realized as momcafe grows to communities across Canada.
Jill is an entrepreneur with an MBA and is also Executive Director of The Forum for Women Entrepreneurs (FWE), a successful nonprofit organization mentoring, educating and energizing female entrepreneurs with growing businesses in BC. In Jill’s role at the FWE she is responsible for overseeing the strategic growth of the organization which currently runs 8 programs.
Jill thrives on helping women succeed. She is a mentor for the Women’s Enterprise Centre of BC, a Judge for the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (2010) and is involved in a variety of other community initiatives. In 2010, Jill was recognized by Business in Vancouver as one of Vancouver’s Top 40 under 40. She currently lives in Vancouver with her husband and two young daughters.
