Not just for my body

02 April 2012 | By tri-cities in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

I did a workout this morning… and it was a great workout. I sweat, I grunted, I groaned… and then I left. I could only handle half the class.

And no, it wasn’t cause I was lame, or sick. It was because it wasn’t fun.

Yes, the instructor put us through a great workout, but she never smiled.  I became so depressed in this class because no one was celebrating the fact that they were there, or they were active… or hell, that they were alive!

See, I attend fitness classes for 2 reasons.

First to work out my body. To sweat and burn calories. To be stronger and healthier and be able to climb mountains when they get in my way.

But I also go to lose my brain for a while! To have someone take hold of my soul and force me to push myself. For someone to make me forget about my quickly filling inbox and the layers of work waiting for me at home. I go to have my endorphins course through my body, for my heart to pump in beat with the music and smile and scream and shout my appreciation. To complain about the pain, with a smile on my face.

Maybe it’s just me… but exercise should be for our heart and soul! If we are struggling to enjoy our activity, or to find passion for the sweat, the chances that we will continue doing it are slim. If we stop doing it, we lose our potential for a long and healthy life.

So, find your fitness JOY! Smile, engage, laugh and share the experience with the people around you!

And for one lucky fan… share this love of activity at EveryWoman Whistler, April 27-29 with a VIP event pass. Please check out their as well! Extra entry in it for you!  Now, go find your passion for sweat!

This is so true. The reason I go to exercise is to also forget about the everyday hum drum and to be inspired! And why did the instructor not smile? If she didn’t look like she was enjoying it then why would anyone else? I think you were right to leave the class. Exercise should be fun and it sounds like the opposite. Hopefully your next class is better and your soul gets a good work out too! Love the post!
