It`s all in the Music

Working with women in all my business dealings, except of course my dear husband, I am astounded by how we continually de-value what we are doing and our benefit to others.

I am lucky enough to work in a team for all three of my businesses. I have an amazing partner for my first business, and (truth be told) without her there would be no business!

I work as a part of a national team with momcafe, and while working independently, I still have a team to ask questions of and share ideas with.

Most importantly, I work with three amazing moms while trying to bring mom inc. MOVEMENT to life.

I find in this last business, more than any other, each of us have a difficult time valuing what we bring to the team, how necessary we actually are. We are doing such a good job of focusing our individual work on our areas of strength that our projects seem easily mastered! Which, if our ego`s were bigger, would make us feel like superstars, but instead makes us feel like we aren`t doing enough.  We also tend to value our team mates work as higher than ours…because it would be more difficult for us to succeed at it (as it does not play to our area of strength)

To me an amazing team is much like a band. While not everyone can be the front man (or wants to be), you need all the instruments to make the music.

I mean, even Ringo Starr was necessary, and without him the Beatles wouldn`t be the same!

So, to everyone out there who doesn`t see their value, or feel they are working hard enough or are necessary to the success of their team…. Grow that ego, shine a little brighter with the confidence that you are necessary! The reasons teams are so valuable is because everyone offers something different, you all cover for each other’s weaknesses and play to each other’s strengths!

That`s when the real magic happens!

So, to my teams …. Across Canada and here in BC…. Thank you! Thank you for letting me work with you (I know what I can be like) and thank you for pushing me to greater success with your brilliance!
