I am reformed. I have to be honest, I was anti-twitter, and very recently too! I remember arguing with my business partners about who had to take the twitter account… it was relegated to dirty diapers, pulling hair from the drains and all the other horrible jobs.
I don’t know if it was because we were intimidated by it, didn’t find the value of it and were just didn’t GET it! I do know that we heard daily “you gotta get on twitter”
I have always compared twitter to exercise. Laugh if you must, be who doesn’t shudder at the thought of starting an exercise program?
Non-exercisers don’t like exercise, they understand that there is value, but maybe not for them, they just don’t have time to fit it into their life, they are doing ok on their own …. Etc
But to an avid exerciser,: you know! You are aware of the endorphin rush, you cherish the health benefits, you set your weekly schedule to your workouts and thrive off the network of friends you have met thru activity. You can’t operate for long without it.
Twitter will make connections for you! Sounds so boring, doesn’t it! But the connections twitter makes will be ones you never imagined. The twitter thread is so entwined; you can’t even guess where you will stumble upon it.
Twitter has power, and influence and allows us to recognize business and people in good (and bad) light. But beyond that, it allows us to respond, and react and display our best (or worst) to the world.
Twitter is instantaneous. Literally as our little earthquake was happening last week, twitter was on it. I hear about newsworthy topics (or not newsworthy ones as well) before they are on the news or the radio.
I truly believe that not everyone should be on twitter! Really, I do! I mean, not everyone has a website, or a phone, or email these days… do they? I bet they do business just fine with a pen and paper and a lick of a stamp!
Twitter isn’t going to go away… it is now time to get on the bandwagon, join those of us who have it figured out and start the process! I mean, I can still remember when I didn’t have an email account…. Or a laptop, or need a cel phone, I bet we can even remember adapting to this newfangled thing called a computer! Find out the benefits for yourself – get a handle!
Join us at Twitterfest and interactive twitter workshop to help you get rolling on twitter, Saturday September 17th, 8:30-11:30am at Joey Coquitlam. Breakfast included.
