I get great pleasure in reading all the facebook and twitter updates of moms working at home in their pjs and slippers, whiling the day away with cups of herbal tea and freshly baked muffins! I too am frequently found in my pyjamas or “comfy pants” as I like to call them, whether I am working from home or not!
Now venturing into momcafe with latte meetings and more, my black-cropped lulus just don’t seem to cut it anymore! But, it is really hard to change diapers and dry clean fruit cup off a business suit.
So I am venturing into the world of business casual.
This concept is an oxymoron alone. Being a practical person who does require details and specifics this allusive business casual leaves me dumbfounded. And being a practical woman, I always think you should be comfortable and at home in whatever you wear!
I am also one of those women who don’t notice if you have your haircut, or are wearing a new outfit. I tend to look at the person behind the hair and inside the clothing. This never seems to cease to annoy the women around me and probably goes a long way in explaining why I tend to wear grey so much!
But here I am wanting to push out of my everyday look and take it up a notch. I figured I needed to find myself some nice jeans and a nice shirt.
Makes it sound so easy, doesn’t it!
So, I spent some time at a local clothing shop the other day trying to find some comfortable “business casual” clothing for our launch event coming up March 16th. I am a huge believer that you need to maintain your personality in your style, which is concerning if you aren’t quite sure of your “style” or how to modernize that style. For a mom who has been in and out of maternity clothing for the last 7 years, modernizing is a must!
I tried on various pairs of “nice jeans” some of which were far too tight, others too loose. I wasn’t sold on the worn holes down the front of one thigh or the flashy pockets on the other! I just wanted a pair of nice jeans!
I did leave the store with an outfit that won’t make me too warm, didn’t pinch at the waist or seem too tight, or too loose for that matter! It conforms to my monochromatic color scheme (note here: in my mind, I one day, explode into a palette of beautiful colors and amaze everyone) and I should be able to chase after my son and network with all the beautiful moms who attend our launch!
I hope it works for all of you who join me, and if it doesn’t, please don’t tell me! And, if you are as befuddled by business casual as I am, remember I don’t care what you wear, as long as you are comfortable!
Now I just have to find some shoes.
