Join us on Friday, May 4th, 2012 from 9am-11am at Ela! Dartmouth Crossing for an inspiring morning with Michelle Kempton as she shares with us her journey in running back and forth from corporate to entrepeneurship and from a tired, unhealthy mom to runner extraordinaire!
Before becoming a Mom of twins, Michelle Kempton travelled North America acting as a business liaison on behalf of large software corporations and Fortune 100 companies. For a number of years, Michelle lived out of a suitcase and didn’t ever plan on having a family. But surprise – she became pregnant and not only with one baby – there were two!
Michelle had always defined herself by her successful career and she didn’t have a “Plan B”! But while on maternity leave, Michelle incorporated a second-hand clothing business that became an overnight success (Next in Line Clothing Inc.). At the time, the concept was a new one – sell gently used brand name clothes online at affordable prices. After a year, she sold the business and started to focus more on her web design and weight-loss journey.
Even with this newfound success as an entrepreneur, there was one component missing in Michelle’s life – good health. Tipping the scales at 285lbs, Michelle realized she needed to lose weight – a lot of weight. Like many busy moms, she ‘put on a good front’ – people called her super-mom, but in reality she wasn’t – Michelle was tired, frustrated, unhappy and needed to find balance in her life.
Being self-employed gave her the flexibility to exercise regularly. Michelle lost 120lbs, blogged about her journey and had a national following. At 35 years of age she was given a national award from iRun Magazine for her inspirational contributions to the running community.
Last year, Michelle became the co-founder of the largest running club on the East Coast – Heart & Sole Running Club – www.heartandsolerunningclub.com – in less than a year she built a club from 6 friends to over 550 members. Michelle is also a race director with United by Running – www.unitedbyrunning.com and also co-founded an all-girls running club called Girls Gone Gazelle – www.girlsgonegazelle.com.
Michelle is also a freelance writer and has been published in Canadian Running, Running Room Magazine and in many newspapers – you can read more about her story on her website: www.michellekempton.com
