Letting it go

This morning my son wanted to get dressed himself (a rarity really), and by this I mean wear a Thomas t-shirt over his pajamas with too short track pants, sport socks and his beloved crocs. My first instinct of course was “good god everyone will think I am neglecting my child and/or am fashion challenged” and then I realized that I needed to just let it go. Because really, I am the only one who cares. I am working on just letting it go a lot lately, just letting go of the chaos that is my home, letting go of the fact that I served chicken strips 3x this week, letting go of worrying about those damn last 10 pounds and whether those ladies really thought I was pregnant (again!). I am finding letting go hard, but very liberating at the same time. This exercise is also making me much more empathetic – for those moms whose kids have meltdowns in the middle of wal-mart, or whose daughter who clearly dressed herself that morning (hoorah for stripes with dots and a tiara on top!), so support your fellow moms with a knowing smile or sympathetic smile as we all learn to just let it go a little…..
