Lori Welbourne & Tamara Joel (TJ)

Lori Welbourne, On a Brighter Note - Lori’s history in the media spans several decades starting out as a daydreaming grade schooler who delivered the Vancouver Sun. As a teenager, her head still in the clouds, her parents encouraged her to start reading papers to become more informed about hard hitting news and the world around her. To their dismay, it was the comics and human interest parts of the paper that captured her attention. Not much has changed. While she is  more interested in current affairs now than she was back then, she still remains continually on the search for the more positive, uplifting and humorous stories to read.

She worked  full-time in a variety of capacities for five different newspapers since 1986, it was her work as an advertising consultant that made her feel the strongest connection to both the business community and the newspaper readers. After her experience with writing a weekly business column, she started to think about writing the kind of column she wanted to read herself, and imagined that others might want to read as well. In 2009, Lori’s column ”On a Brighter Note” was published in the Kelowna Capital News. She gets her inspiration for the column from her personal experiences as a wife and mother of two young children. The column is sydicated and published in various community newspapers.  Recently, Lori has also become part of a video column called “Out There with Lori and Lisa” which is featured on Castanet.net.

Tamara Joel (TJ), 101-5 SILK FM – TJ has had an award winning broadcasting career since 1987 which included stints in television. She is currently one-half of the longest running Kelowna radio Morning Show: “Andy and TJ in the Morning”. They have been waking up Kelowna on 101-5 SILK FM since 2002. Not only does she co-host the morning show with Andy, they share a very personal connection-marriage!

TJ loves her community and her charitable contributions include a range of organizations and causes, including:  The Canadian Cancer Societies’ Gala of Hope, Terry Fox Run, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundations’ Run For the Cure, Central Okanagan Hospice Associations’ Swinging With The Stars, Team Diabetes, JDRF, KGH Foundation, BC Childrens Hospital, Kelowna SPCA and the Rotary Centre for the Arts. TJ is a mother to 10 year old daugther and 8 year old twin boys.

Come join us on November 26th to hear Lori and TJ share their unique and inspirational stories on how they balance work, family and the media. Sit back and relax while you enjoy a light breakfast, steaming latte, onsite child-minding, while listening to these humorous and inspirational women and connecting with other educational savvy Okanagan moms.

Child-minding will be provided on site by Nannysitters. Listen to the speakers and engage in uninterrupted conversation while the children are supervised in a safe and fun area nearby. Babies aged 0 to 6 months (or older if you prefer) may choose to sit closer to Mom. Child-minding will be free of charge but you must register prior to the event as there are limited spots available.
