Sit back and relax while you enjoy a light breakfast, steaming latté, the exclusive signature momcafé biscotti called “The Inspired MOMosa” by The Naughty Cookie Company and on-site childcare provided by Kids & Company, while listening to these inspiring women and connecting with other profesional, savvy Halifax moms. A portion of this event’s proceeds will go to Dress for Success Halifax.
Starr Dobson is the producer and co-host of the Maritime’s most watched news magazine program – Live at 5. Starr joined the CTV Atlantic news team in 1990, after graduating from the University of King’s College with a Bachelor of Honours Journalism degree. The Atlantic Journalism Award winner produced and hosted a special edition of Live at 5 that won the Trina McQueen Award for best news information programming during the RTNDA Atlantic Regional Awards in 2008. The show won again in 2009. Starr was also awarded the Adrienne Clarkson Award – Diversity for her feature length story on Bonny Lea Farms. This year she was took home the RTNDA Atlantic Regional Award for best long- feature for her story “My Tree”. Starr has served on the Board of Governors for the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts and volunteers her time with the IWK Telethon and Christmas Daddies. In November 2011, Starr will take on the role of Campaign Chair for Bonny Lea Farm – a residence and training centre for people with disabilities. Starr also devotes many volunteer hours to Special Olympics Nova Scotia and has recently become a member of it’s Board of Directors. She’s especially proud of her connection with SONS as her younger sister, Stacey, is a Special Olympics athlete and Starr is one of her biggest fans! Starr is married with two children and a very spoiled dog.
A native Haligonian, Leslie MacDonald graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Marketing. After a brief stint in hospitality management, Leslie then branched out into both print media (The Daily News) and television (CBC), before translating her media successes into an extremely successful career with CHUM Radio now Bell Media Radio which continues to this day. Her list of accomplishments is almost as long as client base. Be it non-profit or corporate, local or national, all of Leslie’s clientele will agree that she offers a customized, hands-on approach to every project and opportunity, guaranteed to deliver results. She has a rare combination of being to able inspire and provide new and fresh ideas, while simultaneously being mindful and realistic of budgets and expectations. She is also unafraid to ask tough questions, knowing that they sometimes need to be voiced for the benefit of the client-partner relationship. And with enthusiasm and excitement, Leslie always provides a concise and balanced rationale for the execution of any given project, which ultimately and predictably is proven successful time and time again.Leslie is the mom to a teenage son and enjoys many hours on the soccer field as a soccer mom!
Moya Farrell is a vital part of the HRM. As one of the city’s best-recognized voices, Moya has been part of the morning wake-up routine for metro families for more than 20 years as one-third of the C100 Breakfast Club. Moya lives for pop culture and, several times a day, gives Nova Scotia its fix of Hollywood news with Moya’s Daily Dirt. Moya Farrell is also one of the city’s most called-upon volunteers, spear-heading fundraising for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s CIBC Run For The Cure among other charities. Moya is also a talented visual artist and enjoys creating beautiful paintings on a variety of mediums. A proud Newfoundlander, Moya also enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter in her adopted home, Cape Breton.
Childcare will be provided by Kids & Company. Childcare: Kids aged 0 – 12 years old are welcome. Listen to the speakers and engage in uninterrupted conversation while the children are supervised in a safe and fun area nearby. Babies aged 0 to 6 months (or older if you prefer) may choose to sit closer to Mom. An additional fee of $10.00 (plus HST) for the first child and $5.00 (plus HST) for each additional child will be charged for those requiring childcare (snacks included).
