I love it! We are ALL working mamas and we do SO much for everyone else. Nurturing instincts or not we spend a lot of time in this role and rarely turn the nurturing on ourselves. I guess in terms of working and family and having it all...for me it comes down to my perspective of things and letting go of being "the" perfect mother, housekeeper, lover, etc and being happy with what is in my life...even when the kitchen is a disaster :)

[...] The Canada Revenue Agency defines a business as “an activity that you conduct for profit or with a reasonable expectation of profit.” Their profit test asks, “Was the activity conducted with an actual expectation of profit?” and “Was that expectation of profit reasonable?” By keeping your expenses and income separate from your personal account, you can show your profit or loss more easily.
Yes! Yes! Yes! This is EXACTLY what we all need to hear. You are your own worst critic, and your fellow moms love you MORE for all your imperfections.

Ugh! I'm still grinding my teeth at the "Uh honey but I have a job" comment and nodding sagely at the "working from home but never having cleaned a toilet/folded laundry/answered emails with a sick child" observation. True dat.

I'm currently embarking on a re-training regime for my household as I go back to college part-time and prepare to expand the business/work outside the home. It occurred to me that I was slightly nuts willingly increasing my workload with college homework, commuting, and employment responsibilities until I realised that I shouldn't be doing it all. Extra household income and a happy, contented wife is a huge 'carrot' to my husband, so when I find him slacking in domestic duties I wave the stick of "do you want me to slouch around at home doing nothing but housework and grumbling about being unfulfilled?" at him.

Re-training is a slow process cos he's been the one "with the job" and I've been the one supporting the global unpaid economy for almost 10 years now. He's not thrilled with the prospect of more housework for him, and shared responsibility for childcare (ie. he has to find the babysitter/after school care for his events and not automatically assume I'll be there), and I find it difficult to ask.

On a side note, this semester's homework for one course is writing a policy and procedures manual - I am highly tempted to write the operating manual for this household, including such gems as "when working from home, laundry, cleaning, meal prep can be slotted in to breaks during your 'working' day".
